Thailand to host MotoGP Winter Test
June 09, 2017 01:00
By Lerpong Amsa-ngiamThailand will host the Winter Test in January ahead of its first MotoGP in October next year in Buriram according to Deputy Prime Minister Thanasak Patimaprakorn.
The Kingdom just received a nod from Dorna Sport to host the world’s premier motorcycle racing event between 2018-2020 earlier this month with the first edition due between 5-7 October next year.
Thanasak who oversees the tourism and sports area said Thailand would organize the MotoGP pre-season test event which will allow MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 racers to examine their engines and at the same time study the new competition rules before the first series starts in March.
The deputy prime minister also said the deal with Dona Sports would be officially signed in the next few months. He added that around 200,000 spectators are expected to show up in each MotoGP event which should yield up to Bt1.5 billion income for the country.
“The organization of the MotoGP is also expected to benefit the country’s motorcycle industry as we are No 1 in Asean,” Thanasak said.
Thailand will have to pay for the three-year license fee of the event at Bt400 million, Bt100 million from the public sector and the rest from the private sectors.

June 10, 2017 05:52
By The NationNine-time World Grand Prix winner Valentino Rossi dismissed the Buriram International Circuit as “not interesting”, as Thailand bids to host its maiden MotoGP at the venue in October next year, according to an article on http://www.motorsport.com on Thursday.
The Italian star visited the circuit two years ago for a promotional activity with his sponsor Yamaha and was not happy with the venue, according to his interview with the website journalist.
“The track is not interesting. It’s very boring, has not a lot of corners, just long straights. I think it’s not the best place to go. And also where is the track is quite bad, it’s far from everything,” he said in the article.
Thailand earlier this month got the green light from MotoGP promoter Dorna Sport to host the world’s premier motorcycle racing event from 2018-20. The first edition will be held from October 5-7 next year. Thailand will have to pay Bt400 million as licence fee for three years. Auch die Teams treffen besondere Vorbereitungen, damit das Material die lange Reise gut übersteht. Alle Flüssigkeiten werden abgelassen, der Motor blockiert.
